MONROVIA, Calif. (AP) - AeroVironment Inc. (AVAV) on Thursday reported fiscal second-quarter earnings of $6.1 million.

The Monrovia, California-based company said it had net income of 25 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted to account for discontinued operations, came to 29 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 16 cents per share.

The maker of unmanned aircrafts posted revenue of $73 million in the period, missing Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $74.8 million.

AeroVironment expects full-year earnings to be $1.30 to $1.50 per share, with revenue in the range of $300 million to $310 million.

AeroVironment shares have increased 63 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $91.68, more than doubling in the last 12 months.
